Jon Schmidt is the owner and operator of Mocha Monkey coffee house in Waconia, MN. He is also a passionate potter with a ceramics studio on-site at the coffee house. On any given day you will find Jon hand forming ceramics on a potters wheel, or creating the perfect specialty mocha with fresh ground beans and homemade whipped cream. Mocha Monkey’s coffee was recently rated “the best coffee in town” by Southwest Magazine.
Jon graduated from Gustavus Adolphus college in 2011 with a business management degree. While still a senior at Gustavus, he was driven to seek his first business opportunity. As an upperclassman, he fell in love with crafting unique, functional pottery such as cups, mugs, bowls, plates, etc. When Jon stepped into Mocha Monkey for the first time, all his passions collided – Pottery, business ownership and a quaint community gathering place for friends. Little did he know, 10 months later he would end up owning the coffeehouse.
Jon’s passion for providing artistic handmade pottery has deepened. “I strive to bring uniqueness to everyday tasks, such as drinking coffee in the morning” he said. “I would love for you to come visit the coffeehouse in Waconia and see my work there while also enjoying the best locally roasted coffee, Italian gelato, organic wine and beer, and a variety of other delicious treats!”
